The Flocon Vert, which translates as ‘Green Snowflake’ is more than a mere label. Created by Mountain Riders, it is a progressive approach to making mountain resorts more respectful of their environment, taking into consideration various social and economic factors. The aim? To bring together local organisations to support the transition towards sustainable mountain resorts in the future.
The certificate goes beyond rewarding efforts to protect the environment, it urges resorts to evolve in four main areas:
Sustainable economy
Governance and resilience
Social and cultural dynamics
Resource management
In short, the Green Snowflake encourages resorts to become more respectful to the environment and its inhabitants, so that we can enjoy the mountains all year round and into the future.
The resort was awarded two Flocon Vert certifications from its very first application. A wonderful reward which recognises the resort’s commitment to its aim of becoming a sustainable destination.
The secret to Méribel’s success? A commendable collaboration between 19 local organisations:
The local council of Méribel les Allues
The ski area operators
The Tourist Office
The Val Vanoise Community of Municipalities "Communauté de communes Val Vanoise"
Local non-profit associations
Other committed partners: the National Office of Forests, the Vanoise National Park, Suez water service, Méribel Sports Club, Enedis electricity service, CCI Savoie…
This team project is only the start; each step takes us towards a more viable and united future.
