where to park during the world championships
The World Ski Championships is a thrilling competition taking place between 6 to 19 February 2023 in the ski resorts of Meribel and Courchevel.
With a truly buzzing ambiance, seeing live ski racing is a bucket list experience – definitely one to tick off your list. Watch the racers speed through the arrival gates or cheer them on from the sides of the piste.
There’s no need to be an avid follower of slalom or downhill to appreciate the racing: the exhilarating atmosphere will stay etched into your memory for years to come!
Early bird: From 1 September to 31 October, 10% off the pack price available to the public (not VIP) with this code: RMEARLY

In Courchevel :
This piste has been designed to become one of the big names on the men’s world cup circuit.
With more than 3 kilometres of descent for approximately 950m of altitude drop, the gradient averages 30%. Eclipse is a highly technical and physical route, rivalling Kitzbühel’s Streif or Stelvio in Bormio.
Departing from Courchevel 1850’s famous Col de la Loze, it is a descent that alternates between forest and open terrain, shadow and light, a succession of slopes and jumps, for a thrilling arrival in Le Praz. What’s the most challenging feature? Managing the change in luminosity between the open upper part in the sunshine, followed by the passage into the shady forest.
Test it out for yourself, with well-serviced skis!
Access: from the Bouc Blanc or Plantrey chairlifts, or the Chenus gondola.
This slope has been welcoming the best skiers in the world since the 1992 Albertville Olympic Games. Today’s skiers will have the opportunity to descend this iconic run which has been tailored for top speeds, giving these incredible athletes a chance to break new records.
Access: Olympic chairlift, towards Roc de Fer
Downhill skiing demands extreme speed and technical mastery. Top speeds can be up to 140km/h with average speeds around 100-115km/h.
On these two iconic Courchevel and Méribel runs, the athletes are confronted with jumps, impressive turns and very steep sections.
The snow is highly compacted, even icy, to avoid the deterioration of the piste during the race, and to ensure that the first and last racers can ski on the same quality of snow.
Considered as test of speed like the downhill, the SUPER-G is challenging in that there is only one run! The gates of the Super-G are the same as those in the giant, but spaced further apart. Speeds can exceed 100km/h.
This discipline is a test that fits between downhill and giant.
Technical, physically challenging and demanding extreme precision: that’s giant slalom!
With two rounds, the giant slalom is a complex discipline which requires the athlete to be quick in their movements on fine, precise skis which allow maximal separation between the upper and lower body.
Explosive and aggressive – the keywords for this alpine discipline which is the most technical of the races. The route is very short, comprising many gates which are close together.
Over two runs on different courses, the skier with the best cumulative time over the two rounds is the winner.
The combined comprises two rounds of different disciplines: one speed and one slalom. Both technical and physical versatility are demanded of these racers.
Often a race with surprising results with the most ‘complete’ skier taking home the trophy.
Two identical routes, where the two skiers depart at the same time, with the fastest over the finish line going through to the next round, against a different skier!
Only five slopes are set aside for the World Championships; just 1% of the whole 3 Valleys ski area. In Courchevel: the Eclipse is closed to the public for the competitions, and Granges in Moriond is reserved for the athletes’ training.
In Méribel, Roc de Fer is closed for the competition, with Choucas and Eterlou reserved for training. All the other slopes will be open to the public, as well as all ski lifts.
The lifts used by competitors (Forêt and Bouc Blanc in Courchevel, Legends and Olympic in Méribel) will be shared by the racers and stay open so that the public can fully access the ski area during this period, as well as watch the competitions.
See you from the 6 February for the start of this extraordinary competition!
