Hello, adventurers and snowsport fans! I’m @alicialenoir_. Passionate about nature and outdoors, I am a content creator sharing my mountain adventures with my community of 30,000 fellow adventurers. I love heading out to explore and unearth hidden gems and share them with you.
Today I’m taking over the blog to take you on a day out in my favourite winter playground: Méribel. So many people ask for my secret spots for a successful ski day, so I’ve decided to share with you my best things about the resort in this article.
To start the day of gently, I leave from the bottom of the lifts in Méribel-Mottaret on the Combes chairlift to get my ski legs back. This area is home to the Yéti Park, a fun zone with easy slopes, where you can even meet Yooni, the adorable yeti mascot!
If you’re skiing with friends, you absolutely have to go via the Little Himalaya piste. Between you and me, it’s without doubt the best place to stop worrying about your technique and simply have a great time. The slope is ultra fun, and I’ve lost count of the number of hilarious times we’ve had trying to overtake before the tunnels. Return to childhood guaranteed!
Let’s step it up a notch in intensity, this time in the direction of Roc de Tougne. The ambiance changes in the Back to the Wild sector, which features more technical black and red runs.
The best treat after a warming up those thighs? Right at the bottom of the Julie piste, we find Cabane du Lac. There’s a giant hammock waiting for you, perfect for a micro-pause to check out the scenery before heading back to the slopes. It’s easy to find on the piste map if you want to check it out for yourself!
We continue exploring by taking the new super-comfortable gondola, Côte Brune. It takes you to the top of Col de la Chambre. From there, I love taking the blue run Lac de la Chambre. It’s a fluid cruise down, leading directly to the base for a crucial part of the day…
Because you can’t talk about about the perfect ski day without including the Plan des Mains restaurant!
It’s practically my HQ on the slopes, and for good reason: it’s an absolute treat!
For a quick stop: I dash over to the snack bar to treat myself to their delicious croque-monsieur with melted raclette cheese: ideal comfort food before heading back to the slopes.
Taking my time: I take a seat in the restaurant. There’s nothing better than savouring a nice meal on the terrace in an idyllic setting with a team who take care of the details.
It’s in an ideal location, just next to the Mont Vallon gondola.
Next stop, the iconic Col de la Loze via the chairlift of the same name. For me it’s a must-see summit if you want to take in the views, with a panorama that takes your breath away. Put simply, you literally feel as though you have stepped into a snowy postcard.
And in fact, it’s here I fell in love with the Pic Bleu piste. It’s so nice to ski, fluid and wild with an incredible sensation of liberty that I just love finding in the mountains.
To wind up a perfect day, head to the other extremity of the area: the summit of Roc de Fer (accessible via the Olympic chairlift from where you can go over to les Menuires). It’s one of my favourite spots to chill out.
You’ll find giant wooden hearts installed there, overlooking the immensity of the Vanoise. It’s also an idyllic setting for getting some gorgeous photos, the view is breathtaking. You overlook the whole valley, and with a bit of luck you might even witness an inversion below – a sea of clouds (“mer de nuages” in French).
What I love about Méribel is that balance between easy rides and more demanding pistes, the spectacular summits and gourmet snacks between breathtaking panoramas.
I hope that this travel log will inspire your future ski trips! Prepare your kit (and build up an appetite), the peaks await!
