That incredible moment of your first time back on skis or snowboard… Wondering whether you still know how what to do, or whether your brain and body could have, quite simply, forgotten? Never! Skiing is like riding a bike - you don’t forget and it all comes back to you in a flash. Once the doubt fades away, you can relax and enjoy and the flow, riding the slopes with your cheeks glowing from the cold and that slight burn in the legs (and that goes for us locals too!) on soft, fresh December snow. Pure happiness! The best time to ski in December? We think it’s between 10.00-15.00 - allow your legs to adjust and to take some time to relax afterwards!
Those endless white mountain tops… When you admire the view from the summits in December you get the impression that the mountains stretch away to infinity. The feeling of freedom as you ski among the alpine peaks and crags. With these views, it’s well worth skiing up high in December, as snow levels are deeper at the top. So what are the best slopes? In Méribel, try the red Mouflon: it is off the beaten track and relatively steep. And you’ll be among the first to try out the brand new Bouquetin chairlift. In Courchevel, don’t miss the legendary Combe de la Saulire blue run: a fun challenge and top snow conditions. In the Belleville valley, choose from the pistes from La Masse, the iconic summit of the 3 Valleys at 2800m with its brand new gondola.
In December the days may be shorter, but that only adds to the charm of Méribel’s villages as at night time the decorations light up and make the ambiance all the more magical. And when the snow honours us with a visit, time truly stands still. Walk the illuminated streets in rhythm with the falling snowflakes amidst the authentic mountain village architecture of Méribel. Anyone hungry? Treat yourselves to a crèpe with sugar or a steaming mug of hot chocolate. Are you lucky enough to be visiting during the Christmas holidays? Make the most of the numerous events and activities we have planned and watch as your children’s faces light up. See what’s on.
Follow your little rascals down pistes made just for them: they’re easy and fun to ride and take you into the surprising world of the mountains! In Méribel-Mottaret, you definitely mustn’t miss Yooni in the Yeti Park, under the Combes chairlift. You’ll be plunged into the mountains of the Himalayas on this fun discovery piste. At the Altiport, pay a visit to the Inuits and experience the magical polar atmosphere! Have a 3 Valleys pass? Head over to meet Yepa, the proud Native American who will show you around his canyon and introduce you to the spirits of nature.
Will you be the very first visitor to ride up one of the new lifts? Or the first skier to ride down a brand new piste, with a grin from ear to ear? To keep our loyal visitors happy, each winter we have something new to try. On the programme: 3 new gondolas, 2 new chairlifts, free smartphone charging on the slopes, new spots to chill out… And much more!
