That incredible moment of your first time back on skis or snowboard… Wondering whether you still know how what to do, or whether your brain and body could have, quite simply, forgotten? Never! Skiing is like riding a bike - you don’t forget and it all comes back to you in a flash. Once the doubt fades away, you can relax and enjoy and the flow, riding the slopes with your cheeks glowing from the cold and that slight burn in the legs (and that goes for us locals too!) on soft, fresh December snow. Pure happiness!
The best time to ski in December? We think it’s between 10.00-15.00 - allow your legs to adjust and to take some time to relax afterward!
And if these first descents make you want to go further, January is also an ideal month to enjoy the ski area to the full. Discover our article on what to do in Méribel in January.
Those endless white mountain tops… When you admire the view from the summits in December you get the impression that the mountains stretch away to infinity. The feeling of freedom as you ski among the alpine peaks and crags.
With these views, it’s well worth skiing up high in December, as snow levels are deeper at the top.
So what are the best slopes?
In Méribel, try the red Mouflon: it is off the beaten track and relatively steep.
In Courchevel, don’t miss the legendary Combe de la Saulire blue run: a fun challenge and top snow conditions.
In the Belleville valley, choose from the pistes from La Masse, the iconic summit of the 3 Valleys at 2800m with its brand new gondola.
In December the days may be shorter, but that only adds to the charm of Méribel’s villages as at night time the decorations light up and make the ambiance all the more magical. And when the snow honours us with a visit, time truly stands still. Walk the illuminated streets in rhythm with the falling snowflakes amidst the authentic mountain village architecture of Méribel.
